Social Conservatives have always made their stance clear when it comes to the sanctity of life. The comments of a certain Canadian Conservative senator however, have been making headlines around the world. Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu stated "Each assassin should have the right to a rope in his cell to make a decision about his or her life." on the record in defense of the questionable omnibus crime bill.
Realizing that the senator has suffered a terrible personal loss could add certain understanding to his position but also would certainly make one question his objectiveness, when arguing for sweeping judicial reform. Wouldn't the same social conservatives defending the senator argue for forgiving those who have wronged him?
Prime Minster Harper also defended the senator's remarks "The senator has already withdrawn those remarks. Obviously this government is here to help the victims and obviously the family of Mr. Boisvenu was a victim of a terrible crime and this government wants to act to prevent those things from happening in the future."
