Liberals For Life: Special Interests Intent on Hijacking the Federal Liberals

If you are pro life - fine, it's your belief and I respect that, though I do not agree. But if you are pro life then you are not a liberal. So when I read that Trifon Haitas was on a track to win a nomination in the Toronto-Danforth by-election to run as a Liberal pro life candidate I flipped my lid.


A self styled group entitled Liberals for Life issued the following 'urgent' message to Toronto Danforth Liberal members, "Trifon Haitas is the only candidate who is committed to stop the slaughter of unborn children in Canada."  Haitas was also endorsed by the campaign for life coalition, known for their liberal and progressive views.

In a phone Interview Hatias said “Definitely, I am pro-life. I believe in the sanctity of life and I'm right by their side when it comes to that issue.” 

Another conservative in liberal's clothing

There are always going to groups or individuals who are affiliated with politcal parties that do not share the party's core values, at best out of opportunism or self aggrandization and at worst to hijack then outright. Liberals for life, you have a political party already, the Conservative Party of Canada.


I would like to also take this opportunity to warn the Federal Liberal party: If you accept groups like Liberals for Life into the the fold to become a 'big tent' party or become like the BC Liberal party I will never consider voting for you again and I suspect many others never will as well.


As for the remaining pro life Liberals such as MP Jim Karygiannis, it's time to do some soul searching and ask what you are doing with Liberals, because you sir, are anything but.
