Robogate Weekly Recap: Pat Martin sued And Other Tales of Woe

What a week! Robogate is really coming into its own as the most persistent and egregious conservative scandal yet. Here is what happened this week in brief.

Friday March 2nd

Racknine CEO Matt Meier sued Pat Marin and the NDP for 5 million dollars. Why? "Martin's words were defamatory, and, in the very least, carried the innuendo that Meier and/or RackNine had committed criminal activity, fraudulent activity, participated in a conspiracy, intimidation, sabotage and/or deceit," the claim says. Of course Racknine's guilt is beyond dispute in this whole scandal and no one denies it. Guess what Rackinne? You guys aren't Elections Canada, even though you pretended to be on election day. Pat Martin has certainly stood out through this whole affair calling out the Conservatives and their Racknine surrogates.

Conservative MPs employed US telemarketing firms during the electionContrary to another one of Stephen Harper's lies: “We’ve done some checking we’ve only found that it was the Liberal Party that did source its phone calls from the United States.”

Former Liberal MP Boris Wrzesnewskyj expects a ruling regarding his claim that he lost in his riding of Etobicoke Centre by 26 votes due to election irregularities. Note: this riding has his by Conservative/racknine robocalls

Elections Canada confirms that it is investigating fraudulent robocalls and has received over 30000 complaints. Documents show that the investigation started soon after the May 2011 federal election.

Thursday March 1st:

The Conservative Party listens to all taped outbound calls ahead of the arrival of an Elections Canada investigator. For a party with nothing to hide they certainly seem to be internally reviewing a lot of data.

The conservatives accuse the Liberals of being behind robogate, "The opposition parties said that their supporters received calls from a telephone firm with offices in North Dakota. But the only party who hired a firm with offices in North Dakota was the Liberal Party," Pierre Poilievre said.

Liberals and the NDP accuse the Conservatives of using robocall tactics in the Ontario provincial election.

Wednesday February 29th:

Elections Canada will not investigate 'annoying spammer' calls. In a disappointing twist Elections Canada says they will only investigate fraudulent calls claiming to be from Elections Canada and not late night trolling calls described as "annoying, repetitive or (of) a partisan nature"

Prime Minister Harper claims that Robogate is nothing but a mere smear campaign. “I think we just can conclude this is simply a smear campaign without any basis.” Harper said. Pierre Poutine thinks otherwise

Tuesday February 28th:

Former Conservative staffer and sacrificial lamb Michael Sona claims he is innocent with regards to robocalls in Guelph and that his former gang; the Conservative Party of Canada should accept responsibility.

Monday February 27th:

Peter Mackay claims robocalls to be "isolated incidents." However this list of 45 ridings compiled by the CBC would seem to indicate otherwise.

This blog produces a comprehensive list of ridings and election results showing how this scandal could have impacted the outcome of the May 2011 Federal election.
